Roy Mubuuke Gonzaga (MSc, MHPE, PhD, Fellow-Bioethics, FAIMER Fellow) is a Lecturer in the Department of Radiology, School of Medicine, Makerere University College of Health Sciences. Dr. Mubuuke specializes in breast imaging with additional specialist training in medical education. Dr. Mubuuke is also a Fogarty Fellow of Bioethics which he obtained from Johns Hopkins University as well as a FAIMER Fellow in medical education. He is currently a global Faculty member at the FAIMER regional Institute in Cape Town, South Africa. He is an active researcher in both radiology and medical education with over 38 publications to his name. He is also an Associate Editor of the African Journal of Health Professions Education, and a reviewer with BMC Medical Education, Medical Teacher, Education for Health, Journal of Medical Imaging and Radiation Sciences, British Journal of Radiography and African Health Sciences journal. His research interests are in breast radiology, gynecological/obstetrical ultrasound as well as student assessment and feedback in medical education. Dr. Mubuuke has previously served as a PhD external examiner at the University of Zambia and University of Kwazulu Natal (South Africa). He has also been an external examiner for Masters degree students at Stellenbosch University (South Africa) and Ernest Cook Ultrasound and Educational Research Institute. He is currently supervising 2 PhD students at the College of Sciences and mentoring Masters degree students. Dr. Mubuuke actively participated in writing the NIH funded HEPI grant which the College of Health Sciences won and he is a Co-Principal Investigator on this project. Previously, he was part of the Implementation team of the MEPI-MESAU NIH funded project. He was also a Co-Principal Investigator on the Uganda Cancer Institute Needs Assessment project that was funded by the African Development Bank, and currently he is a Principal Investigator of the Makerere Research Innovation Fund supported project on point of care ultrasound in obstetrics. He is also a NURTURE Fellow since 2018 leading a research project on BI-RADS ultrasound accuracy. Dr. Mubuuke has been actively involved in Faculty Development at MaKCHS in which he has been part of the training team in manuscript writing, curriculum development and student assessment. He was instrumental in the establishment of the Master of Science Degree in Health Professions Education (MHPE) at the College of Sciences of which he continues to teach in addition to his academic roles in the Radiology Department. He is also currently involved in the process to establish a Centre for Health Professions Education (CHPE) at the College of Health Sciences.
