The Makerere University Research and Innovations Fund is a special funding stream to support generation and translation of high impact Research and innovations to drive Uganda’s development Agenda. This unique initiative is being implemented under the Research and innovations Fund (RlF) at Makerere University in Kampala Uganda. it arose after engagements between the top University Management and the Government of Uganda.
The three objectives of the fund include;
1. Develop and fund a robust research agenda based on National development priorities identified from academia, government, implementing partners and industries.
2. Support the dissemination of high quality research and innovations in a way that impacts on development policies and programs.
3. Support the growth of research leadership capacity in the university
Since FY 2019/20, the fund has supported 588 multidisciplinary research and innovation projects across the various colleges. The College of Computing has obtained 21 grants across the two financial years.
It is upon this background that the Mak-RlF office in collaboration with Makerere University College of Computing and information Sciences (CoCIS) is organising an Open Day to showcase some of the outputs that have arisen from the different research and innovation projects in line with objective 2 of the Fund.
We will host 20 projects on April 15th, 2021 with a few stakeholders participating physically and more participants joining in virtually.
