Mucunguzi Boaz

Mucunguzi Boaz is a Ugandan optometrist and health professions educator with an interdisciplinary academic background. He holds a Bachelor of Science with Education from Nkumba University, a Bachelor of Optometry from Makerere University, and a Master of Science in Health Professions Education from Makerere University.

In October–December 2023, Boaz visited the Department of Education at the University of Bergen (UiB), Norway, under the NORPART HePed project. During his visit, he worked under the mentorship of Professor Arild Raaheim and members of the TeLED research group. His activities focused on developing manuscripts for publication from his master’s research on optometry students’ experiences of their clinical learning environment at Mulago National Referral and Teaching Hospital.

Following this academic exchange, Boaz successfully published two papers arising from his master’s research. The experience also strengthened his interest in health professions education research and academic development, prompting him to develop a PhD proposal, with plans to pursue doctoral studies when funding opportunities become available.

Boaz is grateful to the coordinators of the Health Professions Education programme at Makerere University and the NORPART HePed project for providing him with the opportunity to visit the University of Bergen. He remains committed to contributing to research, teaching, and the advancement of health professions education.
