Bio: Dr. Mercy Chelangat is a medical doctor and Associate Consultant Physician who recently completed a Master of Medicine in Internal Medicine at Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST), Uganda, and is currently awaiting graduation. She obtained her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) from Gulu University, Uganda. She is an O.R. Tambo/IDI Scholar whose academic and research training has focused on strengthening evidence-based clinical practice in resource-limited settings. Her research interests include infectious diseases, sepsis, glycemic variability, diabetes, and clinical outcomes among acutely ill patients. Her current research has focused on the prevalence of high acute glycemic variability, associated factors, and mortality among patients admitted with sepsis at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital. Through her postgraduate training and research, Dr. Chelangat has developed experience in clinical research, epidemiological methods, data analysis, and the translation of research findings into clinical practice. Her work is particularly interested in addressing conditions that contribute substantially to morbidity and mortality in sub-Saharan Africa, including severe infections and non-communicable diseases. As a physician and emerging clinical researcher, she is passionate about improving the quality of patient care through research, medical education, and evidence-based clinical practice. She hopes to contribute to locally relevant research that informs clinical decision-making, strengthens health systems, and improves outcomes for patients in Uganda and the wider sub-Saharan African region.
