Mariam Namutebi has been an assistant Lecturer at the nursing department, Makerere University, since August 2014. She holds a Bachelors degree in Nursing and a Masters degree in Nursing (Midwifery and women’s health) from Makerere University. Her current roles include teaching the theoretical and clinical courses with a bias in Pediatric Nursing and Midwifery for both the undergraduate and postgraduate students. She is a certified trainer for midwifery and newborn care skills like; helping babies’ breath, essential care for newborns, essential care for small babies, adolescent health care, providing labour support, managing mothers with Postpartum bleeding and preeclampsia, and advanced bereavement care for midwives. She has been the country lead for MIDWIZE project (a midwifery leadership training in collaboration with Karolinska Institutet) since 2022. MIDWIZE is a leadership training for midwives from several African countries with emphasis on providing labour support, alternative birthing positions, perineal support, and skin to skin care soon after birth. Her research experience involves work in reproductive health, teenage pregnancy, postpartum care and nursing issues. She has worked as a study coordinator managing several health facility-based research projects including the FEAST trial, helping babies breathe project and the TRACT study. She also has several publications in maternal and child health related issues, with over 10 publications in maternal child health, and in adolescent health.
