Dr. Innocent Besigye is a Family Physician, Senior Lecturerand Head of the Department of Family Medicine at Makerere University Kampala, Uganda. He holds a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) degree and Master of Medicine (Mmed) in Family Medicine both from Makerere University and a PhD in Family Medicine fromStellenbosch University Cape Town, South Africa. He has a Fellowship in Health Professions’ Education from the Southern Africa FAIMER Regional Institute (SAFRI) and two research Fellowships from Makerere University (NURTURE Faculty Development Fellowship and Mixed Methods Research Fellowship).

He holds several leadership roles both national and international including; President Association of Family Physicians of Uganda, President African Forum for Primary health Care (AfroPHC), President Eastern Central Southern Africa College of Family Physicians (ECSA CFP), the newly formed College that will be training Family Physicians in 13Sub Saharan Africa countries and Honorary Treasurer for the World Organisation of Family Doctors (Wonca) Africa region.
